I Got a DEXA Scan at 42. Here's Why I Built Protocol 01.

I thought I was doing everything right.

I ate well. I stayed active. I kept an eye on the scale, and the scale said I was fine. Then, at 42, I got a DEXA scan, the kind that shows what your body is actually made of, not just what it weighs. What it showed me changed everything.

I was quietly losing muscle.

The number nobody talks about

Muscle isn't just about how strong you look or how much you can lift. It's metabolically active tissue, the engine that keeps your metabolism running. And it naturally declines with age. It declines even faster when you're eating less, whether that's from dieting, a busy life, or a GLP-1 medication.

Here's the part that stuck with me: most wellness routines are built to move the number on the scale. Very few are built to protect what's underneath it. The scale can move in the right direction while the engine quietly shrinks.

That was me. And once I knew, I couldn't un-know it.

Too many bottles, not enough answers

So I did what most of us do. I started researching. Creatine for strength. HMB for muscle. Fiber for my gut. Something for digestion. B12 for energy. Before long my kitchen counter looked like a pharmacy, and keeping up with all of it every single day was, honestly, exhausting.

I wanted one simple thing: a daily ritual that supported my muscle, metabolism, gut health and regularity before problems showed up. Something built for women like me. Something I'd actually stick with.

I couldn't find it. So I decided to make it.

Why Seoul

I live in Seoul, and if you've spent any time with Korean skincare, you already know how seriously Korea takes formulation science. That same precision extends to wellness. I saw how far ahead the thinking was here, and I knew this was where Protocol 01 had to be built.

We developed it in partnership with one of Korea's leading publicly listed biotech manufacturers, held to rigorous quality standards. No shortcuts, and no compromises on a single ingredient.

Five ingredients. Each one earns its place.

When I sat down to design the formula, I had one rule: every ingredient has a job, and every ingredient gets a meaningful dose. No fillers, no long list of extras added just to look impressive.

  • myHMB® : a patented, clinically studied form of HMB that supports muscle health and helps reduce muscle protein breakdown.
  • Creatine monohydrate: one of the most studied ingredients in sports nutrition, supporting muscle strength, power and exercise performance.
  • Prebiotic fiber blend with PHGG: a gentle fiber from guar beans that supports gut health and regularity.
  • Ginger extract: supports digestive comfort.
  • Vitamin B12: contributes to normal energy metabolism and nervous-system function.

All of it goes into one powder stick that you mix into a glass of water. And because a ritual only works if you enjoy it, we flavored it with natural pear yuja, a Korean citrus. It tastes like spa water: crisp, refreshing, and not too sweet. No added sugar, no artificial sweeteners, 30 calories.

The ritual is the point

Protocol 01 isn't a quick fix, and it isn't a weight-loss product. It's daily support for the muscle you've built, designed to work alongside good protein intake and regular movement, especially strength training. myHMB® and creatine work best with consistent daily use, which is exactly why I wanted it to be as simple as one packet, once a day, preferably in the morning.

It's the routine I wish I'd had before that scan. Now it's the first step in what we're building at SEOLLAE: precision K-wellness for the long game.
